Lackawanna College was founded in 1894 as the Scranton Business College. The College is an accredited, private, non-profit educational institution providing opportunities for career and personal development within selected associate degree, certificate and continuing education programs. Lackawanna College is an urban school with its main campus in Scranton and centers in Hazleton, Honesdale, New Milford and Towanda. The College's Scranton campus, which opened in 1996, combines distinctive architecture with modern technology and contains the elegant 1048-seat Mellow Theater. The College participates in an "Academic Passport" program and maintains articulation agreements with the PA State System of Higher Education as well as local institutions. The College competes in Region XIX of the NJCAA as a Division II program which allows the Athletic Department to award scholarships to athletes in football, basketball, baseball, softball, golf, cross country, volleyball, soccer and cheerleading.
