Attending a university is about much more than getting a degree; these days employers want to see that you did more than just go to class and socialize during your undergraduate years. Student Life encourages students to get the best St. Thomas experience. We provide opportunities for you to develop your personal skills, which are all-important in our employment market. The Student Success Center strives to create a positive teaching and learning environment designed to enrich all aspects of the student experience and ensures that every student who enters FTU has the opportunity to succeed.
St. Thomas has a strong interest in identifying and promoting innovative methods in all areas of teaching and assessment to enhance the quality of your learning experience. You will find that the way courses are structured allows your skills to develop with your knowledge. You will also be encouraged to develop personal and transferable skills necessary for future life, such as problem solving, critical analysis, research, and written and oral communication. Through group projects you will learn how to operate effectively in a team setting. St. Thomas has strong links with many firms and organizations in professional sports, travel and tourism, and international business and commerce. Internships are available to students in most programs, allowing you to engage in stimulating, fulfilling, and career-enhancing projects.
Our Bobcats put up a relentless fight when they go head-to-head with some of the toughest teams in the Florida Sun Conference. Our student-athletes—nearly 200 each year—compete in 12 NAIA intercollegiate sports, all of which offer scholarships.
Our athletic spirit extends to activities that create unity and leadership among all teammates. Through Athletes Take Action, our athletes sponsor a field day for local elementary school children and organize the annual sports banquet. The program has been recognized statewide due to the positive impact it has had on the local community.
Intramurals are for everyone. Various individual and team sports and activities are available, ranging from regular league competition to more informal tournaments and one-day events intended to pique the varied interests of the St. Thomas community.

Founded: 1961 as Biscayne College by the order of the Augustinian Friars; when university status was attained, the name of the institution changed to St. Thomas University to reflect its Cuban heritage—it was originally founded in Havana, Cuba, in 1946 as the Universidad de Santo Tomás de Villanueva.

Facilities: Outstanding facilities include classrooms equipped with state-of-the-art technology and the Chapel of St. Anthony. The Carnival Cruise Lines Science and Technology Building has dramatically increased St. Thomas’s undergraduate research abilities.
Academic Programs: 30 undergraduate majors;programs include engineering, biological re-search, nursing, and sports administration; 17 graduate programs; a Juris Doctor degree and four joint law degrees; an Ed.D. in Leadership and Management; a Ph.D. in Practical Theology; and a D.B.A. in Sports Administration.
Specialties: The human rights program at the School of Law is the largest in the country, attracting scholars from the United Nations and Human Rights Commission. The sports administration program is one of the oldest programs in the country and has affiliations with major sports teams that provide valuable internships for our students.
