Turn your passion into a great career

New England’s technical university
For 75 years, New England Institute of Technology has met the challenge of preparing its graduates to enter an increasingly competitive workplace. Founded in 1940 as the New England Technical Institute, the present college began as a certificate-granting trade school. In 1971 a new administration, under the leadership of President Richard I. Gouse, envisioned a degree-granting institution that would not only be better qualified to meet industry’s need for technically trained workers but would also become one of the top technical colleges in the nation.

Today enrollment has grown to approximately 3,000 students from the 70 students enrolled in 1971. More than 50 associate, bachelor’s, master’s, and online degree programs are offered. The trade school that started in an old mill-style building now encompasses three campuses in Rhode Island: the 200-acre main campus in East Greenwich, and two in Warwick, consisting of approximately 500,000 square feet of classroom, laboratory, faculty, and administrative office space. NEIT is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

Dynamic changes to its program offerings and physical plant symbolize NEIT’s journey into the 21st century and its response to the radical transformation that new technologies have brought to the workplace. The needs of tomorrow’s students demand access to those technological resources that will enable them to realize technology’s full potential to change their education and their lives.

First-ever residence halls
History is in the making at New England Tech with the construction of the college’s first 400-bed residence hall, located at the East Greenwich campus. The four-story facility will feature single and double rooms and semi-suites as well as student lounges, study rooms, and multipurpose spaces. An addition to the college’s main building will consist of an expanded student dining facility, fitness center, and innovative classroom spaces. These projects will transform NEIT from a commuter college to a more traditional campus.

Career services
The Career Services Office offers assistance to students and graduates in many aspects of the job search. Workshops are conducted to enhance students’ job-seeking skills. Students are also encouraged to meet individually with members of the Career Services staff to perfect their résumés, interviewing skills, and job search techniques.

Many employers use NEIT as a resource when recruiting new employees by submitting job leads directly to the college’s Career Services Office. The Career Services staff also contacts employers to identify employment opportunities for students and graduates to review. In addition to sharing job lead information, the Career Services staff provides students and graduates with career and company websites so they may research current employment postings as well. Part-time employment prospects are also made available to students. Several recruitment events are held on campus, bringing more than 125 employers to NEIT annually.

Student support
Each student is assigned a Student Advisor through the Office of Student Support Services who serves as the primary point of contact. The Advisors provide the information, support, and encouragement necessary in addressing students’ questions and concerns as well as guidance regarding degree requirements and college policies and procedures.

Student Advisors are available to assist students experiencing difficulties with course work and problems that may interfere with the successful completion of their programs. The Advisor’s goal is to help students achieve success throughout their educational journey.

The Academic Skills Center (ASC) provides tutorial support and alternative learning strategies to NEIT students throughout their degree programs at no charge.

The professional tutors in the ASC assist students with assignments in reading, writing, oral presentations, mathematics, physics, and life sciences. ASC instructors also offer students online and independent courses to strengthen computer skills and study skills. Enrichment courses are offered for professional and personal growth.

“My education at New England Institute of Technology has helped me reach international recognition as a writer, actor, director, and producer, earning a five-picture deal through Woodhaven Productions and Screen Media Films/Universal. I always heard that New England Tech was known for its hands-on approach to learning. I knew I would get a chance to learn by doing and concentrate my efforts on what really interested me. New England Institute of Technology will always mean a lot to me. It’s where I fell head over heels for what I do every day. The flexibility within the structure of the program gave me the freedom to optimize my creative potential. It’s a place I’ll never forget.”
