Undergrad Profile

Marshall University could be your Best. Decision. Ever.

The decision of where to continue your education beyond high school is a significant one, requiring the consideration of many factors. Because you’ll be investing both your time and money in your education, you want to be sure your choice is a sound one. There are many reasons why choosing Marshall University could be your Best. Decision. Ever.

Growth and development
There’s never been a more exciting time to be a part of the growing community of Marshall University. In the past 18 months, Marshall has opened the Visual Arts Center in the heart of downtown Huntington as the home of our School of Art and Design; the Chris Cline Athletic Complex, where our athletic training and physical therapy students work in the MU Sports Medicine Institute; and the Arthur Weisberg Family Applied Engineering Complex, which houses our programs in engineering, computer science, safety technology, and digital forensics.

Along with our growth in facilities, Marshall’s degree programs are expanding as well. In the past year, Marshall has added undergraduate degrees in sports management and mechanical engineering and graduate degrees in social work, biomechanics, and clinical and translational science, among others. Faculty and administrators at Marshall University are continually evaluating our program offerings to ensure our students have the best opportunities to pursue their educational and career goals.

Expanding horizons
With INTO Marshall, a partnership with INTO University Partners, students from around the world are coming to our Huntington campus to enroll in English language as well as undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Students who are interested in learning more about the languages and cultures of other countries can join in the Campus Conversation Partners program or even room with an international student in a residence hall. Marshall also encourages students to complete a study abroad experience and offers study sites in 50 countries. For students who would like to travel within the United States, Marshall participates in the National Student Exchange, which allows students to spend a semester at another American university while still paying Marshall tuition!

A quality education
Marshall University prides itself on the quality of the education our students receive. From award-winning faculty members like Dr. Kateryna Schray, the Carnegie Foundation West Virginia Professor of the Year for 2014, to our entire senior class of engineering students passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, our faculty and students embody excellence in all they do. We have the nation’s top forensic science master’s degree and a nursing program whose students regularly pass the NCLEX exam at rates that beat the state and national averages. But don’t worry about being left behind if you struggle in a class. Our Tutoring Center, Writing Center, and Math Tutoring Lab provide students with assistance in all their course work, and our faculty keep regular office hours when students are encouraged to meet directly with their instructor to discuss items of concern or interest.

A sense of family and home
While the thought of going to college is exciting, students might feel anxious about leaving their friends and family and starting over in a new place. But at Marshall you’ll be a part of a new family from day one. When you arrive for freshman move-in day, you’ll be met by returning students, faculty, and staff members who are ready to welcome you and assist you and your family with the move-in process. We celebrate your start as a Marshall student with a family picnic and guide you through your first days on campus with our Week of Welcome (WOW) activities, including sessions with a staff and a student mentor who will meet with you weekly for the first half of the fall semester in your UNI 100: Freshman First Class sessions.

Your support doesn’t end there. Every Marshall student is assigned an academic advisor who will guide you through your course requirements and encourage you to graduate in four years. The staff of the Student Resource Center are always ready and willing to answer your questions about all things Marshall and will offer you workshops and activities designed to improve your time-management, study, and stress-management skills. Our Career Services Center will assist you in finding part-time employment and internships and will continue to provide services for you even after you graduate.

Best. Decision. Ever.
You will have a lot to consider in your college decision, all while trying to make the most of your high school years and juggling responsibilities like work, extracurricular activities, and, of course, your classes! But the faculty and staff at Marshall University want you to make sure you make time to come visit us. Tour our campus. Sit in on a class. Have lunch in one of our dining halls. We’re convinced that if you do, there will be no doubt about where Marshall fits in your future plans!
