Location and services
CSU is located just 100 miles southwest of Atlanta in Columbus, Georgia, the second-largest city in the state. Established in 1828 as a trading post on the Chattahoochee River, Columbus boasts a rich history that our city proudly preserves. From a history buff’s need for historical landmarks and museums to the outdoor enthusiast’s need for bike paths or whitewater rafting, there is always something to do in our city.
The University has two campuses: our more traditional campus located in midtown, and our trendy downtown campus, home to our School of the Arts and College of Education and Health Professions. For the utmost convenience, both campuses provide dining facilities, a bookstore, a University Police office, and more. All students may choose to drive on campus, but know that transportation is provided between both campuses on a regular schedule. Campus housing is also provided at both main and RiverPark campuses and is available for freshmen and transfer students alike. Additionally, we offer a specialized transfer student orientation conveniently available online, but transfer students are welcome to attend our on-campus orientation too.
Our students are competitive not only in the classroom but on the field as well. With over 14 Division II sports for men and women, we are a force to be reckoned with in the Peach Belt Conference. In 2015–2016 alone, we won the Peach Belt Conference Commissioner’s Cup and the Peach Belt Conference Presidents’ Academic Award. Sports include baseball, basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track & field, volleyball, and competitive cheerleading and dance.
With over 100 student clubs and organizations, the University offers numerous ways for you to stay connected. Whether it’s winning flag football with an intramural sports team, executing a successful voting drive with the Students for Political Awareness Association, networking with the Red Cross as part of the Student Nurses Association, or perhaps teaching at a STEM camp with WeTeach Columbus, our involved students have a well-rounded, robust, and successful college experience when they get involved.
At CSU we know that study abroad is the most exciting way to study. We encourage you to extend your learning beyond the classroom by adding a global focus to your studies and immersing yourself in a new culture and way of life. Students can choose a two-week experience, or the truly courageous may opt for a full semester. With over 15 partner institutions located on three continents, your options are abundant. Because we believe strongly in this opportunity, scholarship funding is available for those who apply. In 2015, 100% of CSU students who studied abroad received scholarships to aid in affordability. We truly value the high achiever, and through the Honors College, students are able to design an engaging collegiate experience that takes learning to a new level. Honors College students have unique access to specialized honors course work and seminars, study abroad programs, internships, and research experiences. All students must apply to the Honors College for acceptance, and transfer students must have at least a 3.4 cumulative grade point average to be considered. More details can be found at honors.ColumbusState.edu.
CSU makes every effort to transfer credit for academic work completed at other institutions. In general, courses completed at a regionally accredited college or university will transfer. Applicants may submit a special request for evaluation of transfer credit not originally considered by the University. Applicants may also earn credit from Advanced Placement, CLEP, DANTES, Excelsior College Exams, International Baccalaureate, the military, and professional experiences.
Columbus State is an excellent choice for transfer students; we extend a personal invitation for you to visit. To find out about our visit opportunities, contact our Transfer Recruiter, Mat Edmunds, at edmunds_mathew@ColumbusState.edu, or visit us online at ColumbusState.edu/visit.
