Our College of Fine Arts offers BA, BM, BS, BME, and BFA degrees with majors in Dance, Film, Theatre, Music Performance, Music Business, and Musical Theatre, as well as a highly regarded graduate program in Choreography. Concentrations may include Jazz, Commercial Music, Applied Music, Composition, Theory, Music Technology, Marketing, Voice, Piano, Organ, and other instruments.
Learn from the best
At JU the strength of our programs is the natural result of having nationally recognized faculty, some of whom have been honored by such organizations as the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, the Pew National Fellowship Program, the Fulbright Scholarship Program, and the American Council on Education. As a student of our approximately 200 faculty, renowned thought leaders, and published scholars, you will remain their top priority. They go above and beyond to inspire, empower, and challenge you. The College of Fine Arts ensures that every student receives the instruction and guidance needed to realize his or her full artistic and intellectual potential.
Not only is JU a premier private institution located in sunny northeast Florida and minutes from downtown Jacksonville, but we are a short drive from the ocean. Forbes named Jacksonville among the Top 10 Best Cities for finding employment; Business Insider ranked Jacksonville #16 in its 24 Best Places to Live in the South; and Convention South magazine dubbed our city #4 in the South’s Top 10 Music Spots for Meetings & Events and Best City for Culture. A metropolitan hub, our river city consists of unique residential communities, restaurants, arts and culture venues, and countless entertainment options. Our city is also home to the largest urban park system in the nation, offering year-round recreational activities and natural landscapes and waterways that inspire.
Recognized as a top value and ROI university
A degree from Jacksonville University is a smart investment. According to the three major rankings on college return on investment (ROI), JU is placed among the top 10% of all public and private colleges and universities nationwide (The Economist, Payscale.com, US Department of Education College Scorecard). We work closely with students to provide both education and real-world experiences that markets most demand, equipping our graduates for long-term value. Collaboration, the latest technology and equipment, a vibrant campus community, and study abroad opportunities—as a JU artist you will receive maximum return on your investment and enter the global market with vital industry connections.
From class to venue
Located on 250 acres of exquisite riverfront land, our campus overlooks the downtown skyline, a constant reminder of JU’s mission to continually meet the needs of our students who will become future industry leaders, community champions, innovators, and employers. Small class sizes, personalized attention, and a performance lifestyle are all leveraged to bring the student artist or performer maximum creation and exhibition time. At other universities you will wait in a long queue of creators, competing for one moment in the limelight—a moment that may not come until late in your college career. Not at JU. Engagement, visibility, and versatility are priorities, and we want you on stage, in the gallery, and on the screen early and often.
As a smaller private university, we know a little about limitations. But when it comes to our students—to developing the smart, creative, and fearless—there are no limitations. Challenges? Certainly, but we foster an atmosphere where you can ask “what if?” and “why not?” which may lead you to extraordinary places.
