Christian Life Profile

Our Standard is Christ

For over 100 years, Belhaven University has continued to flourish among Christian colleges and universities for its enduring commitment to the liberal arts as well as its integration of faith into the classroom. Belhaven is a top choice for students seeking a college degree that will challenge, prepare, and motivate them academically and spiritually from a biblical perspective.

We believe that Christian higher education should encourage students to think critically in a wide array of disciplines and provide an environment that is academically rigorous while being supportive of students and their success. Belhaven’s mission is to prepare students to serve Christ Jesus in their careers, in human relationships, and in the world of ideas. Belhaven offers 28 academic majors across a full spectrum of disciplines as well as a variety of graduate programs. Remarkably, we are one of only 33 colleges and universities in the United States with national accreditation in all four of the arts—dance, music, theatre, and visual arts. Our nationally respected arts program goes hand-in-hand with our vision to form Christian artists who impact the world forChrist through excellence. In addition, Belhaven is the only Christian college in America to offer a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing.

We have several distinctive programs . . .
Core Curriculum, Omega College, and the Arts programs (dance, visual arts, music, and theatre)—just to name a few. The core subjects are taught in historical sequence, so that students see the worlds of literature, history, art, and philosophy as influencing and shaping each historical time period.

The Omega College offers a tailored program for students who have a specific goal or interest that does not fit into an existing major. The Omega College is just one way that Belhaven shows respect for the gifts, interests, and passions of each student. Omega gives students access to a personalized degree created with all the courses necessary to prepare them to reach their fullest potential.

Belhaven University is located in the beautiful and historic Belhaven district, a notable residential setting in the heart of Jackson, Mississippi. This close-knit community surrounds the University with parks, favorite local jogging routes, and professors who live literally around the corner. The University is only a few blocks away from the historic Fondren Arts District, where students can check out local restaurants, shops, coffeehouses, and more.
