The schools on this list won't be boxed in by the typical two-semester system.

  • Alma College (Alma, MI): Has two 14-week semesters and a one-month intensive spring term in May.
  • Bates College (Lewiston, ME): In May, after the second semester, a short term is offered.
  • Colorado College (Colorado Springs, CO): Operates on the Block Plan, in which students take one course every three-and-a-half weeks.
  • Cornell College (Mount Vernon, IA): Students take one course at a time.
  • Dartmouth College (Hanover, NH): Has a flexible year-round calendar, four terms per year.
  • Elmira College (Elmira, NY): Term three is a six-weeks special study term starting at end of April.
  • Florida Southern College (Lakeland, FL): A four-week term is offered at the end of the school year.
  • Furman University (Greenville, SC): Has an eight-week winter term.
  • Hanover College (Hanover, IN): A one-month term is offered at the end of the school year.
  • Kalamazoo College (Kalamazoo, MI): The academic year is broken up to allow for career development, foreign study, internship, and research.
  • Maharishi University of Management (Fairfield, IA): Students take one course at a time.
  • Quest University (Can): Students take one course at a time.
  • Tusculum College (Greeneville, TN): The college operates on a Block Plan in which students take one course every three-and-a-half weeks.
  • University of Montana — Western (Dillon, MT): Students take one course at a time.
