New England Center for Investigative Reporting Summer High School Workshop

Overview

Designed for high schoolers interested in pursuing a career in investigative reporting, journalism or writing, the Summer High School Workshop enables students to spend two weeks on Boston University's campus working alongside renowned journalists and BU faculty. In the process, participants hone the critical-thinking and writing skills that will be necessary for college admission. During the two-week session, boys and girls develop investigative story ideas; write hard news, profile and feature pieces; write an investigative story; learn to perform a background check; learn to work with government databases and other sources of information; develop interviewing skills; gain familiarity with computer-assisted reporting; study news ethics; and present their findings online, in print and for broadcast.
