Research Science Institute

Held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, this tuition-free program combines on-campus course work with hands-on research experience. The first week of the program is dedicated to college-level classes in mathematics, science, engineering, computer skills and research techniques. Students spend the next four weeks conducting open-ended, relevant research projects at Boston-area colleges, universities, hospitals and corporate facilities, supervised by noted scientists and mathematicians. Students deliver their findings in conference-style oral and written presentations during the final week. Guest lectures, field trips around Boston and a weekend trip to the beach round out the program. Successful applicants should demonstrate superior achievement in math and science in the classroom and beyond. Exceptional students as young as 13 may apply if they have completed grade 11. Participants have been recognized by the Intel Science Talent Search; the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair; and the Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology.
