School of the Museum of Fine Arts Pre-College Summer Studio

Overview

This rigorous precollege program serves high school upperclassmen with an interest in the visual arts. Summer Studio's interdisciplinary curriculum addresses painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, installation, video, digital photography, sound art and performance. Faculty, teaching assistants and graduate student mentors help participants advance their technical skills in all subjects, learn to work independently and collaboratively, and participate in an artists' community. During the final week of the program, SMFA admissions officers and professional artists provide insights on portfolio building, the college application process and potential career paths in the arts. Visits to Boston museums and galleries are integral to the program. Each session culminates in a final exhibition of student work.
