University of British Columbia Summer Scholars Program

Catering to non-Canadian students, this precollege program focuses on sustainability and environmental science. University of British Columbia faculty conduct lectures and oversee discussions and fieldwork. The program addresses issues pertaining to the local Okanagan environment in an experiential and multidisciplinary manner. Classroom discussions address the principles of sustainability; humans and the environment; soil, agriculture and food; cities and urban planning; forests; freshwater resources; the atmosphere and climate change; and sustainable living. A final project allows students to engage in one-on-one work with UBC faculty and researchers. Field trips—both in the city and in the surrounding mountains, forests and waterways—enrich the program
