University of California-Los Angeles Acting and Performance Institute

High school students with a serious interest in theater gain exposure at UCLA to the training and discipline required for participation in a university theater program or a career in the performing arts. Boys and girls attend morning performance classes addressing acting fundamentals, movement and improvisation, and scene. A performance workshop in the afternoon offers practical experience in the rehearsal and performance process. Under the guidance of an instructor, students take part in all aspects of the creative process: conceptualizing, writing and transforming ideas into dramatic action. A collaborative project leads to a session-closing performance for invited guests.
