University of Notre Dame—Introduction to Engineering

Designed for rising high school seniors, IEP provides students with an overview of the elements of engineering design and computer programming, a discussion of career opportunities in engineering, a chance to meet professional engineers and a preview of college life. In the morning, boys and girls attend two hourlong lectures, while afternoons provide time for hands-on computer sessions and work in the engineering learning center. Pupils write a report on each talk, learn concepts of design and implement them by building systems, and team up with fellow students to compose and deliver a presentation during the program's final week. Two plant trips to nearby engineering facilities complete the curriculum.
