Wellspring, which enrolls boys and girls who have had weight problems for two years or more and who are at least 30 pounds overweight, combines intensive diet and activity management with an emphasis on behavioral change. Instructors attempt to permanently change thinking and behavior regarding diet and physical activity. A classroom component includes compulsory nutrition and culinary arts course work and traditional academics; all students select two core classes that lead to transferable high school credit.
