Scholarships are an incredibly important part of being able to afford your college journey. Unlike student loans, you don’t need to pay scholarship money back, so you should apply to as many as possible! Each month, CollegeXpress highlights upcoming awards and contests as part of “Scholarship Saturday” to help make your search a little easier. Check out the featured awards below, and be sure to apply if you’re eligible. Good luck!

$1,000 | Easy Scholarship: Ask a Grandparent or Older Adult to Share a Story
Deadline: February 28
Info: Applicant must be between the ages of 13 and 25. You could win an easy $1,000 scholarship by swapping stories with an older adult in your life to decrease isolation during COVID-19. Research shows that encouraging older adults to share their stories benefits the emotional, physical, and mental well-being of older adults, and leads to greater empathy and stronger connection with the listener (that's you!). Call or video chat with an older adult in your life (a grandparent, family member, friend, any older person you admire) and ask them to share a story from their life with you. You'll automatically earn verified volunteer hours, and you'll be entered for the chance to win a $1,000 scholarship!

$2,500 | Financial Aid February Scholarship Contest
Deadline: February 28
Info: Applicant must be at least 13 years old. To enter please complete registration on CollegeXpress and answer one question: What is your biggest question about financial aid?

$5,000 | Discover Student Loans Scholarship Award
Deadline: February 28
Info: Applicant must be a high school or undergraduate student who signs up for Discover's helpful tips on planning and paying for college.

$500 | Odenza Marketing Group Scholarship
Deadline: March 30
Info: Applicant must be a United States or Canadian resident who is a current high school student or is a college student who has at least one full year of post-secondary studies remaining at the time of the award. Minimum 2.5 GPA and essay(s) on the following topic required: 1. Choose a city located anywhere in the world that you believe would, from a future employment prospective, benefit your career. Explain how spending time in this city would help you become more marketable to a potential employer(s) 2. Explain why you should be granted the scholarship.

$2,500 | Superpower Scholarship
Deadline: March 31
Info: This award is for U.S. students. Must be a legal U.S. resident. Must be a resident of one of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia. Must be 14 years of age or older at time of application.

$500 | AfterCollege Succurro Scholarship
Deadline: March 31
Info: Applicant must be currently enrolled in a program working toward a two- or four-year degree (including master's and doctorate degrees). Minimum 2.5 GPA and good standing in the program required. Applicants must click the blue Apply button on the AfterCollege application page and complete their AfterCollege profile which will be the criteria (with specific emphasis on the personal statement) used to determine the recipient of the award.

$2,000 | Community Service Scholarship for Multicultural Students
Deadline: April 1
Info: Applicant must be from a multicultural background who will be a college freshman beginning in the fall. Application and essay about their community service involvement are required; the essay should not exceed 1,000 words. Selection based upon academic merit (as reflected in transcript, class rank, and GPA) and service to their community.

$500 | Writing the Future Scholarship
Deadline: April 7
Info: Applicants must be one of the following: graduating high school seniors with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, currently enrolled in a four year post-secondary institution or currently enrolled in a two year post-secondary institution with the intention of transferring to a four year college or university. Students must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Applicants must complete online application including essay portions.

$1,500 | Create Real Impact Contest
Deadline: April 15
Info: Applicant must be a resident of the United States who is enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited high school, trade school, college, or university. Applicants must create an original work showcasing an idea for a solution to the problem of reckless and distracted driving. Eligible formats include video, music, creative writing, or artwork.

$1,000 | E-Waste Scholarship
Deadline: April 30
Info: Applicants must be a high school, college, graduate or home schooled students. There is no age limit. Students must also be a U.S. citizen or legal resident. A 140-character message about e-waste is required to apply. The top 10 applications will be selected as finalists; finalists will be asked to write a full length 500- to 1,000-word essay about e-waste. Only online applications are accepted.
