In college, you probably won’t have a lot of extra cash. But you will probably have a smartphone (and if you’re really lucky, parents who pay for it).
Tonsof today’s apps are devoted to saving money. These are some of our favorites for budget-savvy college students.
Mint
Of course it starts with Mint—but Mint is really good at saving you money! Track, budget, and manage your money all in one place. This app easily syncs your bank accounts and categorizes your transactions, so you’ll always have easy access to your funds when needed.
Coupon Sherpa
Yet another good thing about technology—no more clipping coupons! This app gives you access to hundreds of coupons right at your fingertips. Going shopping? Search for the store, see if there are any coupons you want to use, and the cashier can scan it right from your phone!
Shop Savvy
Ah, barcode shopping. It’s pretty much the scourge of brick-and-mortar stores everywhere. Just scan the barcode of the item you’d like to buy in a store, and Shop Savvy will show you if there’s a better price online!
Grocery IQ
If your supply of cheesy corn curls is getting low, just scan the barcode on the bag (or on any of your favorite foods) using this app. Not only will it generate a shopping list, but Grocery IQ will show you if there are any coupons available.
Ibotta
Earn cash for buying the food you were going to buy anyway! You need to pick the products and deals you want to redeem before shopping, and you may need to go through a multi-step process (like filling out a one-question survey), but Ibotta will deposit a small rebate in your PayPal account for you!
GasBuddy
Gas prices aren’t easy on the wallet, especially for college students who get to have a car on campus. This app will help you save money at the pump by showing you the lowest gas prices closest to your current location.
I Love Free Things
To be fair, what college student doesn’t love free things? Looking for free t-shirts, food, or coffee? Check out the app and see who is offering free things nearby. You won’t believe how much money you can save!
