Set Sail to Study Abroad With Semester at Sea

Want to see as much of the world as possible by studying abroad? Semester at Sea could be the perfect match for you!

Studying abroad can provide you with an incomparable once-in-a-lifetime experience. You’ll get to see new places, meet new people, perhaps even learn a new language—all while continuing to work on your degree. But what if, instead of digging your heels into a single city like Rome or Barcelona (which, don’t get us wrong, can be extremely rewarding!), you could get a taste of several exotic destinations during your study abroad adventure? Semester at Sea offers exactly that.

Founded in 1963 and currently partnered with Colorado State University, Semester at Sea is a unique study abroad program that allows students to experience multiple countries. Students from up to 300 colleges in the United States and around the world participate in Semester at Sea each term, and the credit they earn can be transferred to their home institutions. While exploring the world, students can choose from up to 75 courses across several disciplines of study, with syllabi that reflect the parts of the world to which they are traveling.

While making their voyage, students live on the MV World Odyssey, a passenger ship that functions as something of a “floating university.” It has a student union, wireless internet, a library, and cabins and staterooms with everything students need to feel at home on the sea.

While in port, students are allowed to choose from a variety of pre-planned excursions. You could stroll through the Mercado Central in Valencia one day and wander across the Accra Plains of Ghana the next!

CollegeXpress helped me on my journey to get to the school of my first choice by showing me all the options I have. I didn’t know of the College of Southern Nevada until I went on this website, and it helped me look for other choices and compare what colleges would be right for me.

CollegeXpress has helped me look at colleges that fit my interests by taking my profile and matching it to colleges that have the programs I'm looking for. It has the ability to connect me to colleges so I can be contacted by them and look at them more in-depth to find what's right for me. Additionally, the scholarship database is super beneficial for getting scholarships for college. Not only does it help lift the financial burden of college but it shows all the opportunities available. Overall, CollegeXpress has been very helpful to me.
