Why choose St. John’s?

The St. John’s legacy is Catholic, Vincentian, metropolitan, and global. Graduates aren’t only employable when they leave campus, but they take with them all of the hope, compassion, awareness, and well-rounded dialogue that can only come from knowing what it means to be a global citizen.

College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences
The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is home to scholars and scientists unified by one intrepid goal—to improve the quality of life for people globally. Thanks to a rigorous program that stresses experiential learning, our students seamlessly transition into rewarding careers.

Accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, the elite 6-Year Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program is one of a few of its kind that provides students with the clinical and academic skills and knowledge needed to deliver outstanding patient care in all pharmacy settings. Additional undergraduate programs within the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences include Biomedical Sciences, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Radiologic Sciences, and Toxicology.

In addition the numerous labs, the University’s three Anatomage Tables represent the latest in virtual dissection table technology. The 84-inch-long table features a high-resolution touch screen that allows users the ability to visualize human anatomy and patient data—exactly as they would on a real cadaver. Each anatomical structure is accurately reconstructed in 3D and is sourced from actual human cadavers.

Pre-health Advisement in St. John’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
Pre-health students gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed for success in medical or graduate school. You can choose from a range of exciting and challenging majors, any of which will allow you flexibility to complete the necessary academic and extracurricular requirements for graduate study in a health-related field. Health professions encompass a wide range of careers that offer both challenging and rewarding service. Related undergraduate programs in St. John’s College include Biology and Chemistry.

The world is your classroom
St. John’s University provides students with a global education both inside and outside the classroom. More than 44% of St. John’s students study abroad at some point during their undergraduate career, and countless others see the world through St. John’s–sponsored service plunges. In addition to three New York City campuses—Queens, Staten Island, and Manhattan—St. John’s has a campus in Rome, Italy, as well as study locations in Paris, France, and Limerick, Ireland.

Define yourself by serving others
The mission of St. John’s is that of service, following the lead of St. Vincent de Paul’s teachings that we are collectively responsible for caring for those around us who are in need of assistance. This philosophy is engrained into every aspect of the St. John’s experience—from the classroom to the arena and beyond.

The student-run organic garden on the Queens campus helps provide food for those in need through the St. John’s Bread and Life program. Students also participate in Midnight Runs to Manhattan, providing food and clothing to the homeless population of New York City. It’s not uncommon to find that many students will spend their spring breaks building houses for Habitat for Humanity or hopping a flight to Panama to help build a school.

We major in options
It is often the case that a student enters college unsure of what program he or she wants to pursue. We support this journey by offering more than 100 undergraduate programs campus-wide built on an “options-oriented” core curriculum that prepares students for success in a challenging academic environment. Exclusive majors such as Actuarial Science, Biomedical Sciences, Mathematical Physics, and a six-year Doctor of Pharmacy are offered in addition to larger programs such as English, Biology, Homeland Security, Marketing, Fashion Studies, and so much more.

St. John’s University’s student chapter of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) was awarded the organization’s 2019 Student Chapter of the Year Award. The St. John’s chapter of AAPS was founded in 2006 and has grown exponentially each year since. It includes students from a wide range of disciplines, including industrial pharmacy, medicinal chemistry, pharmacology and toxicology, and pharmaceutical administration.

“This group promotes the mission and vision of both St. John’s University and AAPS, by incorporating core values of learning, innovation, service, inclusiveness, and integrity in their programming.”
– Russell J. DiGate, PhD, Dean, College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences
