As London’s leading university for civic engagement, we will help you become active citizens who can make a real difference in the world.

Raising the bar
An increasing amount of American students are pursuing international degrees to expand their global understanding and gain international work experience to differentiate themselves from other graduates. We offer more than 150 majors along with career preparation that includes global internships, mentorships with executives at multinational companies, international service opportunities, and paid research. The result: our graduates go on to broaden their horizons and world-views, working all over the world as psychologists, entrepreneurs, politicians, artists, and more.

“Learning by doing” is central to the way we teach. Whichever subject you choose to study, you will be able to apply your developing knowledge and expertise to real-life community projects, either as part of your courses or through volunteering opportunities.

Campus safety
If you attend UEL and live in London, rest assured that your safety is our top priority. Our campus is monitored via CCTV at all times, and there is an on-campus security team 24 hours a day who patrol the Student Village. A telephone with a dedicated emergency line is in every dorm, available any time to assist you.

We are one of the few universities in London to offer on-campus accommodation. Our stunning waterfront Student Village is home to more than 1,200 undergraduate and postgraduate students. Housing is available to all University of East London students, irrespective of whether you are studying at the Docklands or Stratford campus. A free bus service connects the two campuses. Find out more at uel.ac.uk/accommodation.

Federal aid and funding
UEL is one of the few UK universities that accepts the FAFSA (and Veterans Affairs benefits through the GI Bill). We have a dedicated federal aid officer who will guide you through the process of transferring your federal loans over to the United Kingdom. You may also apply for a private loan such as Sallie Mae alongside your FAFSA loans, as long as the total amount borrowed does not exceed your total cost of attendance. Our FAFSA code is G30450.Contact our Federal Aid Office at federalaid@uel.ac.uk, or visit uel.ac.uk/internationalfunding-for-north-american-students.

Student visa
To study a full-time degree at UEL, you will need to apply for and obtain a Tier 4 (General) student visa to enter the United Kingdom and begin your studies, unless you hold a UK or EU passport. The University of East London is one of the few UK universities to offer a dedicated Visa Advice service. Contact the UEL ISA team (International Student Advice) at isa@uel.ac.uk.
