Fearless learning, forward thinking

New College of Florida prepares intellectually curious students for lives of great achievement. Legislatively designated as The Honors College of Florida, NCF is a four-year residential public college in Sarasota that offers more than 35 majors in mathematics, natural sciences, humanities, arts, and social sciences, plus a graduate program in Data Science. Approximately one-third of our students earn baccalaureate degrees in STEM fields.

New College leads all universities in Florida for the percentage of Fulbright Scholars it graduates (71 in the past 15 years) and ranks as the nation’s #1 public university for the percentage of graduates who go on to earn PhDs in math and science. In the last six years, New College students have been accepted to 16 law schools ranked in the top 30 by U.S. News & World Report.

Personalized learning
At New College, the small size of our classes and 7:1 student-faculty ratio provide frequent interaction between students and professors and contribute to a personalized learning experience where students develop their own ideas, produce original research, and explore new fields of personal and professional interest. Because hands-on learning is central to the education of all New College students, you will have numerous opportunities to conduct original research with faculty, participate in professional internships, pursue international learning experiences, and engage in community service projects that transform your life as much as those of whom you serve.

Throughout your time at New College, you will be challenged intellectually and encouraged to think independently. We focus on your individual strengths and abilities, which is why we go beyond traditional letter grades. Instead, your professors will provide detailed performance evaluations every semester that highlight the tangible skills you’ve acquired and help you grow and develop as a student. The culmination of this journey is the senior thesis project, in which you pursue a topic of your choice under the guidance of a faculty advisor, creating your own body of knowledge through original research and defending your work during the baccalaureate exam.

Integrated academic and career planning
Starting your first year at New College,
post-graduation planning is integrated with your academic advising. As a result, you can confidently craft your own learning experience in ways that enrich your intellectual understanding while connecting your education with your future goals. Through the Center for Career Engagement & Opportunity (CEO), you can participate in career preparation workshops, get assistance with internship and fellowship applications, and connect with peer and alumni mentors. If you are considering graduate school, the CEO has all the information you need for the required entrance exams and applications and will connect you with the College’s pre-med, pre-law, and MBA advisors who can help you navigate the application process.

Exceptional value
New College students get an exceptional education without the enormous price tag. New College ranks #2 for lowest student debt in the state of Florida, and many of our students graduate debt-free. Florida ranks as the eighth-best state for low student debt. Through our partnership with the Cross-College Alliance, you will have the opportunity to take courses at the other membership schools, all on New College’s tuition. Membership schools include Ringling College of Art and Design, University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee, the Ringling Museum (Florida State University), and State College of Florida.
