At Saginaw Valley State University, we don’t settle—we are dedicated to supporting our determined and engaged students in reaching extraordinary heights.

Our SVSU College of Education graduates are prepared to teach students to be the leaders and thinkers of tomorrow through undergraduate programs in early childhood education, elementary education, secondary education and special education. With over a dozen certificates, endorsements and graduate programs, we can help you explore your passion and determine your own path.

At SVSU, we value your personal success. Our faculty and staff are dedicated to helping you achieve. We keep our class sizes small so that our professors know you by name and provide personalized, one-on-one mentorship. Also, we have experienced faculty advisers for each specific major program who will guide and support you with your specific career goals in mind. Our College of Education students are placed in small cohorts by major so that they can work with, interact and learn from their peers.

In the College of Education, we believe it is important to provide you with real-world teaching experience as early as possible. As student majoring in education, you will receive hundreds of hours of hands-on experience in K-12 classrooms before you even begin your student teaching—so you have plenty of opportunities to work with different students, grade levels and schools. Our location in Michigan’s Great Lakes Bay Region means that you have the unique opportunity to develop your teaching skills in urban, suburban and rural classrooms.

On a global scale, we encourage our education students to engage in study abroad and international teaching opportunities. Each summer our College of Education sends a team of faculty, students and alumni to a school in India to teach in the school’s classrooms. In the fall, students and teachers from the India school visit SVSU.

At SVSU, we provide you with opportunities to excel and grow during your undergraduate studies, so you are prepared to succeed as you begin graduate school and your career. Our graduates have won Teacher of the Year awards in Michigan, South Carolina, Texas and elsewhere; they stand out in a competitive job market. We achieve great heights:

• 98% job placement rate for graduates

• Nationally recognized education programs

• Special endorsements in teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, cognitive impairments and other areas of growing need

• Our pass rate on the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification in early childhood far exceeds the state average

Our students are passionate about engaging with their community, inspiring young minds and helping children to learn and grow. They are driven to inspire the next generation and genuinely care about the students they work with. When you pursue an education degree at SVSU, you transform children into the leaders and thinkers of tomorrow—teaching them to believe in themselves and their abilities.

At SVSU, we believe in you and encourage you to dream big and soar to new heights. Our professors are experts in their fields and will work with you individually to achieve and advance your goals. Our College of Education provides you with the support, guidance and opportunities to help you thrive, succeed and accomplish anything you set your mind to.

Inspire the next generation. Be a teacher. Continue your education at SVSU.
