Dream big, inspire others, and soar to new heights

At Saginaw Valley State University, our students thrive and grow into compassionate leaders who are prepared to empower the next generation of learners. Graduates of the College of Education gain the skills and knowledge to teach and inspire their students through undergraduate programs in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, and Special Education.

Our programs go beyond teaching just the basics so students excel and develop into dedicated educators. You will study with passionate professors who have long-standing reputations in Michigan as experts in their field. Coupled with 500 hours of field experience before student teaching, you’ll be fully prepared for your own classroom. With over a dozen certificates, endorsements, and graduate programs to choose from, we can help you explore your passion and blaze your own path.

Enriching opportunities
Expand your horizons by studying and teaching abroad. We encourage all our education students to take advantage of international teaching opportunities. Each summer, a team of College of Education faculty, students, and alumni travel to India to teach and connect with youth in local classrooms. In the fall, students and teachers from India visit our University to continue the learning partnership.

At SVSU, we provide you with opportunities to grow and succeed throughout your undergraduate studies. Upon graduating, you'll be equipped with the skills to excel in the classroom, graduate school, or wherever your career takes you. Our graduates have won Teacher of the Year awards in Michigan, South Carolina, Texas, and elsewhere. Teacher preparation here is geared to accelerate your success with:
• A 98% job placement rate for graduates
• Nationally recognized education programs
• Special endorsements in teaching students with autism spectrum disorder, cognitive impairments, and other areas of growing need
• A pass rate that far exceeds the state average on the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification in Early Childhood Education

Personalized support and mentoring
We value your personal success. The College of Education faculty will provide you with the support and opportunities you need to thrive. With professors who are experts in their fields and experienced faculty advisers for each major program, you’ll receive individualized guidance for your career goals. Small class settings allow our professors to know you by name and offer personalized, one-on-one mentorship. Education students also journey through their programs in small cohorts grouped by major. You’ll connect, collaborate, and learn with and from your cohort peers.

A heart for helping students
At SVSU, we believe in your dream. Our Education students are passionate about engaging with their community, inspiring young minds, and helping children learn and grow. They are advocates for the next generation and demonstrate genuine care for the students they work with. When you pursue an SVSU Education degree, you transform children into confident lifelong learners by teaching them to believe in themselves and their abilities.

Be an inspiration. Be a teacher. Be a Cardinal.

In the College of Education, we believe it's important to engage in real-world teaching experiences as early as possible. As an Education student, you'll be immersed in hundreds of hours of hands-on experience in K–12 classrooms before you even begin your student teaching—offering plenty of opportunities to work with diverse students, grade levels, and school settings. Our location in Michigan’s Great Lakes Bay Region means you have the unique opportunity to develop your teaching skills in urban, suburban, and rural classrooms.
