Your potential. Our purpose.
Western Illinois University’s School of Education has a long-standing reputation of preparing students to be self-reflective lifelong learners, transformational leaders, and socially conscious teachers in an evolving global society.
Education majors start working with students as early as freshman year and have opportunities to teach between 180–280 hours as teaching assistants, classroom aides, and tutors prior to their semester-long student teaching experience. WIU’s professors and education centers provide students with courses that emphasize exploratory, experiential, student-focused teaching and learning experiences.
The WIU Curriculum Library offers educational teaching aids and tests that WIU students can use in their classrooms. It houses collections of approximately 37,000 volumes of books for children and young adults as well as a K–12 textbook series. Education students also use the WIU Infant and Preschool Center for observation and hands-on learning experiences with children.
