Health Sciences at BSC
The Health Sciences major offers a flexible academic program with an interdisciplinary approach that will prepare you for a variety of careers in allied health fields, such as nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, pathology assistant, genetic counseling, medical technology, medical assistant, nutrition, athletic training, and more.
As a Health Sciences student, you will work with the College’s Health Professions Program Advisor to create a course plan tailored for your specific personal and professional goals and interests. Introductory coursework in the natural and social sciences provides a foundation for students to explore a wide variety of upper-level electives and complete a capstone experience addressing current issues in human health and biology; however, Health Sciences students don’t just learn in the classroom. Students apply their academic knowledge and skills to address real-world problems through a RISE3 research, internship, or service learning experience.
The Health Sciences major can also be combined with our other distinctive programs, such as Public Health, Poverty Studies, Urban Environmental Studies, or Leadership Studies to enhance your educational experience. The strong critical thinking, quantitative, and problem-solving skills that you will develop through your BSC education will make you uniquely prepared to tackle the challenges of today’s complex healthcare industry.

“I am so grateful for my time at BSC, and how it has shaped by future ambitions, passions, and perspectives. My experience at BSC will be forever treasured!”
“Birmingham Southern’s rigorous classes will help shape you into a competitive candidate for graduate schools and enable you to do well in future courses, no matter what route of study you choose. Although there are few Pre-Vet students, your advisors and professors will help you locate opportunities to grow and learn more about your field of interest regardless. I’m incredibly thankful for all of the professors at BSC, I know I can continue to ask them for advice or reach out to them even after my time on the Hilltop. With that being said, get to know your professors and peers! The connections you make now will truly last a lifetime. It may be a small campus, but the connections you have the potential to make are endless. Truly thankful for my time at BSC.”
