Science & Engineering Profile

Discover phenomenal facilities and leading-edge technology

Science is about the thrill of new discoveries and experiences. God’s plan for you is waiting to be revealed, with excitement and fun in the discovery. It’s all here for the living at Indiana Wesleyan University: New friends. New insights. New environment. New opportunities.

Discover dynamic growth
Founded in 1920, Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) is a comprehensive Christian university committed to liberal arts and professional education. IWU is the largest institution in the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) and—through innovative degree programs and student services—has become one of the most prominent Christian universities in America.

Engineering at IWU
The Engineering Program is the newest program offered at IWU and is now approved by the Higher Learning Commission.

The Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) program will launch this fall (2022) with five specializations:
• Civil Engineering
• Computer Engineering
• Design Engineering
• Electrical Engineering
• Mechanical Engineering

The Engineering program, in particular the specialization on Design Engineering, is built around design thinking and has an intentional partnership with IWU’s Art + Design division. Design thinking is an integral part of the curriculum and overall engineering education with some courses taught by Art + Design faculty. IWU is the only Christian college or university offering Design Engineering as a specialization. There is an emphasis on environmental ethics and the stewardship of creation.

Class sizes are small and focused on hands-on learning from day one. With the addition of an engineering program, IWU now offers a complete STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education package.

Discover IWU’s accomplished and accessible faculty
IWU professors are student focused and possess strong academic credentials. All of the science faculty are doctorally prepared and come from major research institutions such as the University of Michigan, Indiana University, and Purdue University. Most have been published in scientific literature and have ongoing undergraduate research projects.

Discover the thrill of research
For most college students, an education in the sciences revolves around memorizing long lists of factual information and “cook-booking” through age-old laboratory exercises. While some factual learning and recall are critical to grasping fundamental natural science concepts, IWU faculty believe original undergraduate research is also essential. For this reason, two credit hours of research are required for all Chemistry majors and strongly recommended for Biology majors. Many students enjoy the process of research over the summer. IWU natural sciences alumni have excelled at graduate and professional schools of every kind.

New Engineering Program Facility

The university has committed $5.88M to the building out of 15,000 square feet of new and state-of-the-art engineering building on campus.

The new building includes offices and dual use classrooms, engineering shops, computer labs, robotics and automation lab, circuits and instrumentation lab, civil engineering lab, materials lab, thermo-fluid lab, and senior design and collaborative space.

An Inside Look

What students are saying about us...

  • “My years at IWU became the defining years of my life. IWU gave me a strong foundation of knowledge, skills, faith, and friendships that would prove critical to my growth through the years.”

    • Scott Reese, CEO of GE Digital
      IWU Computer Information Systems Alumnus
  • “The research that we are doing is research that nobody has ever done. We're researching HIV—and to be a part of taking steps towards improving the lives of those with HIV—that is so great to be a part of!”

    • Hannah Vanhusen
      Pre-med, Biology
