Practical experience is available on campus in a number of areas, including University-owned Shine.FM, a top-rated contemporary Christian radio network. Olivet students preparing to enter the radio and recording industries gain real-world experience by working alongside seasoned professionals in operating the station.
Campus life offers more than 90 clubs and organizations; a broad array of intramural athletics; and facilities that enhance your intellectual, physical, and spiritual growth.
A center of campus activity is the 160,000-sq. ft. Douglas E. Perry Student Life and Recreation Center. The facility features a 72,000-sq. ft. field house equipped with basketball, tennis, and volleyball courts, as well as an eight-lane indoor running track. The Perry Center also boasts two swimming pools, a four-story rock-climbing wall, and a high-end fitness center used in summer training camp by the Chicago Bears of the National Football League.
Looking for competitive athletics? The Olivet Tigers compete in 21 intercollegiate men’s and women’s sports in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). “Winning Championships, Developing Champions” is the Tiger motto. In 2015–2016, Tiger accomplishments included 16 NAIA national tournament appearances; one relay, one team, and 11 individual national championships; and four Coach of the Year awards. Champions in competition and in the classroom, Olivet led the NAIA with all 21 teams named as NAIA Scholar Teams.
If music is your focus, you’ll appreciate how Olivet’s School of Music blends the latest technology with a rich music culture. The school is recognized as an Apple Distinguished Program for its iLearn@Olivet initiative. You can hone your musical expertise in the 175-member marching band, two full orchestras, three mixed choirs, or any of our numerous musical ensembles.
At the heart of Olivet Nazarene University is a vibrant spiritual life. “Education with a Christian Purpose” is our mission. At Olivet, you will grow academically, socially, and spiritually. Whether praying with friends in the dorm or worshipping with fellow students, faculty, and staff in the 3,059-seat Betty and Kenneth Hawkins Centennial Chapel, your faith will flourish.
You have opportunities to practice your faith as you join hundreds of students who travel each year on mission trips. Life-changing experiences—for students, faculty, staff, and those they serve—take place in Africa, China, Honduras, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, France, Haiti, Thailand, and many other locations.
