Elizabeth Martin, Owner, Salt Marsh Counseling, Charleston, South Carolina
Master of Marriage and Family Therapy

“I wholeheartedly believe that it was my liberal arts education at Converse that taught me to think in a broad and critical way, which has allowed me to adapt to many different work situations.”

Philip Belcher, Author, The Flies and Their Lovely Names
Master of Fine Arts

“The most important characteristic of any MFA program is the quality of the faculty, and the Converse faculty is outstanding. They care about writing, they care about their students, and they encourage excellence. The opportunity to work closely during the mentoring semesters with the poetry faculty attracted me to the program, and the faculty exceeded even my lofty expectations.”

Donna Gallagher, Soprano, Performing Across Europe
Master of Music

“Majoring in Vocal Performance in the Petrie School of Music graduate program really challenged me, encouraging me to strive to achieve up to and beyond my limits. The faculty is completely dedicated to creating a professional level of performance within the school and works to prepare students for the highly competitive field of music after college.”

Programs for educators
Education Specialist (EdS)
Converse College’s Education Specialist (EdS) in Administration and Supervision (elementary and secondary) is a program designed to prepare competent and effective leaders in all
phases of school leadership and administration. Individuals interested in moving from the classroom to an administrative position—such as principal—will find this a challenging avenue of preparation. The Converse College Department of Education is accredited by the South Carolina Department of Education and the Council for the Accreditation for Educator Preparation (CAEP).

Master of Education (MEd)
The Master of Education at Converse is a program where experienced teach
ers combine work in their academic specialty with advanced courses in professional education. In some cases, teachers (with the guidance of an academic advisor) design their course of study in order to add an area of certification to their existing credentials. While each MEd program area has specified core requirements, there is considerable flexibility in this degree so that teachers may pursue special areas of interest.

Master of Education–Art Education (low residency)
Converse’s low-residency MEd in Art Education is the only art education program of its kind in South Carolina. This two-year program will equip you as an exemplary professional artist, researcher, and teacher—and is accessible to busy, practicing teachers anywhere in the state. Achieve your
academic and career goals—on your schedule.

Master of Education—Advanced Studies (online)
The Master of Education program in Advanced Studies at Converse College prepares exemplary middle and high school teachers to advance their pro
fessional careers. This program is offered 100% online but is designed to mimic the on-campus atmosphere by providing students with a learning environment in which they can collaborate and interact with the professor and their peers.

Education Specialist—Literacy (online)
The Education Specialist in Literacy degree prepares exemplary professionals to provide leadership in reading at local and state levels and is offered 100% online. It is designed to help students achieve their academic and career goals on their schedule.

Master of Education—Gifted
Education (online)

The MEd program in Gifted Education prepares exemplary professionals to provide leadership in gifted education, as well as meet gifted certifica
tion requirements. The MEd in Gifted Education is offered 100% online. It is designed to help students achieve their academic and career goals on their schedule. Interested students may also complete their practicum experience over the course of two weeks in the summer at Converse, working with gifted students in grades 1–5 through the Athena summer camp program.
