Pursue your passion

With more than 30 graduate programs, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is an impressive public university with more than 2,500 graduate students seeking a degree. We’re an incomparable family of collaborative students and inspired faculty—teachers, researchers, scientists, engineers, nurses, and problem-solvers—generously working and learning together.

Faculty scholars bring real problems and pressing research questions to the classroom. Do aquatic animals have the potential to adapt to changing temperatures? What’s the best way to revitalize a hurricane-prone town? Could alligator fat be a practical, renewable source of fuel? Students contribute to the answers. They also create new solutions. They built a house that flexes its public and private spaces, adapting to big parties or solitary contemplation when needed. They helped design the University’s new bike path. Honors students regularly present original research. The possibilities are limitless.

Graduate students are an essential part of the community of scholars at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where we strive to create an environment that promotes scientific inquiry and stimulates the creative process. We believe that William Butler Yeats was absolutely correct when he stated that “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” We encourage you to take a closer look at our graduate degree programs and learn how we can help nurture the fire that burns inside of you.

Research: Responsive. Intriguing. Relevant.

Research is an essential part of our University. UL Lafayette has achieved the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Learning’s elite R1 designation, ranking us among the nation’s top public and private research institutions. We specialize in applied research that solves real-world problems and improves people’s lives. Through research, our faculty and students contribute to an ever-growing body of knowledge. This emphasis directly affects the classroom because our professors excel at teaching and research—and they can’t wait to tell their students about their latest discoveries. We also offer students the chance to gain hands-on experience—early and often—in their fields of study.
