Civic Leadership Institute

A collaboration between the Civic Education Project at Northwestern University's Center for Talent Development and Johns Hopkins University's Center for Talented Youth, CLI integrates rigorous academics, community service and hands-on field experiences. This program for talented high schoolers emphasizes knowledge acquisition and leadership skills development. An introductory course in civic engagement and contemporary social issues explores challenges affecting communities through active discussions and group projects. Students engage in service-learning projects in urban neighborhoods, meet with community leaders, and attend special seminars and guest speaker presentations. Boys and girls apply through Northwestern CTD for the CLI program hosted by the University of Illinois-Chicago, or through Johns Hopkins CTY for sessions at John Hopkins University or San Francisco State University.
