Intelligent, highly motivated high schoolers work both individually and in small groups during this rigorous program. HCSSiM participants investigate concrete problems, seek patterns and generalizations, formulate conjectures in the language of mathematics and apply insight and experience to the creation of proofs. For the first three weeks, college professors lead workshops covering undergraduate-level content in number theory, combinatorics/graph theory, modern algebra and other topics from outside the usual secondary school and early college curricula. Students then select one maxi-course (covering a semester-long elective's worth of material) and two minicourses. Most faculty live on campus and join students for meals and recreational activities.
