The ASE program matches students from Oregon and Washington with professional scientists and engineers who act as mentors. Participating organizations in Oregon, southwest Washington and Vancouver, British Columbia, include IBM, Intel, Nike and the National Weather Service. Research topics include archaeology, biology, biomedical, chemistry, computer science, earth science, environmental science, engineering, mathematics, physics and social sciences. Students attend a two-day conference of seminars and workshops and present research findings at a symposium. Participants in certain programs receive a stipend.
