Program participants choose from seven-, 13- and 20-day sailing sessions that focus on sail training, marine science and island exploration. Aboard a large sailing vessel, campers receive instruction in sailing from a professional crew that gradually shifts responsibility for running the ship to the young sailors. Such activities as climbing aloft, steering, standing watch and cleaning the ship are integral to the program. Other pursuits include marine science lessons, snorkeling and diving in kelp forests, boogie boarding at remote beaches and kayaking in the Channel Islands.
