Prepare for your career in the thriving health care industry.
Health care occupations and related industries are experiencing explosive growth. In fact, the U.S. Department of Labor projects that five million health care jobs will be created by 2022. If you want a career as a physician, nurse, dentist, pharmacist, optometrist, physician assistant, nutritionist, or other health care professional, you should consider a degree from NSU’s internationally acclaimed Health Professions Division (HPD).
The division consists of eight colleges: dental medicine, optometry, osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, medical sciences, health care sciences, nursing, and the new College of Allopathic Medicine. Degrees from the HPD are highly prized, and getting into a program is competitive. For example, the College of Dental Medicine receives approximately 3,500 applications for 105 spots, making it one of the most selective dental schools in the country.

Where it all happens
NSU’s HPD Complex has everything you need to launch your health professions career, with a 20,000-sq. ft. library, facilities for patient-simulation training, scientific laboratories, a 50-station computer laboratory, and amphitheater-style classrooms. HPD’s medical services building has facilities for primary health care, dental care, and complete eye care. The entire complex is a living example of the University’s commitment to helping future health care professionals meet the ever-changing needs of our communities.
NSU’s Health Care Centers and other service centers handle over 250,000 patient visits annually and provide everything from dental care, optometry, family medicine, and behavioral health to geriatrics, pediatrics, audiology, occupational therapy, and pharmacy services. And because the centers collaborate with HPD, it means NSU students not only learn from the best but get to participate and use that knowledge right away.

All of our classes are taught by professors, not teaching assistants, with an average class size of just 22 students. And because almost all of NSU’s renowned graduate and professional schools are right here on campus, you can earn your master’s or doctoral degree here too.

NSU’s ultramodern campus features one of the largest libraries in Florida, the Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center. The library’s five floors are packed with academic resources and have total wireless access and a café. The student recreation complex, the RecPlex, is next door inside the University Center. So as soon as you’re done working, you don’t have to go far to play.
Inside the RecPlex you’ll find the Flight Deck lounge, a performing arts theater, one of the best workout facilities in Florida, and The Shark Tank, a thundering 4,500-seat arena, home to the NSU Sharks NCAA Division II athletics.
We also have more than 120 clubs and organizations on campus, including academic clubs and pre-professional honor societies to help you get a leg up on your medical career, along with a powerful student government, socially active fraternities and sororities, and intramural sports.
The South Florida lifestyle
Beyond our beautiful campus, fantastic shopping, world-class sporting events, festivals, and concerts await. You’ll also enjoy lots of sunshine and an average temperature of 77 degrees. The beach is a 15-minute drive to the east, and the Everglades are 15 minutes to the west. South Beach is about a half hour away. Orlando’s famous theme parks are three hours away. So is Key West. Just hop in the car and go!
Finding answers and improving lives
Research is an integral part of NSU’s mission and one of the ways we give back to the community. Advanced research is focused on discovering new ways to improve health care, protect the environment, and enhance human interactions.
Using nearly $82 million in external funding, scientists and researchers are collaborating on projects that advance the University’s academic mission, public service outreach, and health care services. Restoring coral reefs, developing anti-cancer therapies, regenerating teeth with stem cells, protecting wildlife through DNA forensics, and treating chronic fatigue syndrome are just a few of the ways NSU is making a difference—and you can be a part of it.
