University of California Santa Barbara is a public, comprehensive university. Founded as a Normal school in 1909, it joined the University of California system in 1944. Programs are offered through the Colleges of Creative Studies, Engineering, and Letters and Science. Its 989-acre campus is located in Santa Barbara, 90 miles from Los Angeles.
