We're here to work
Commonwealth University - Bloomsburg was founded on the belief that opportunity is created by those determined to achieve more. And because our graduates make a difference from their first day on the job, employers put a high value on a Bloomsburg degree—and the people who earned them.

Founded in 1839, the University was built on the vision that higher education should be available to anyone who is ready to work for a better life. Today, that tradition continues with limitless opportunities for our students across the Commonwealth and beyond. Commonwealth University - Bloomsburg is an inclusive comprehensive public university that prepares students for personal and professional success in an increasingly complex global environment.

Preparing for success in a complex world
As the largest comprehensive university in Northeastern and Northcentral Pennsylvania, BU offers 58 undergraduate degree programs with more than 68 minors and 30 graduate degree programs, along with the experiences and technology to give students the best possible preparation for careers in their field. An alumni base of more than 72,000 enables students to network throughout eastern US and beyond. Students also have opportunities to study abroad in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas.

You’ll feel right at home
Our 366-acre campus includes seven residence halls, three apartment buildings, one suite-style high rise, 14 places to grab a meal, and countless ways to feel right at home. At the foot of campus, the town of Bloomsburg offers an ever-expanding array of dining, entertainment, lodging, and shopping options for every need and taste. The nearby Susquehanna River plays host to endless outdoor fun, such as biking, hiking, and boating.

An Inside Look

What students are saying about us...

  • “Bloomsburg gets you in the classroom often and gives you experience right away. Teaching is a work of the heart, and all of the professors teach you how to be the best social-emotional educators you can be in the real world by giving you real-life examples. Without Bloomsburg, I would not be the teacher I am today, which I will be forever grateful for.”

    • Max Madara '22
      Mid-level Education/Social Studies
  • “Bloomsburg has strengthened and enriched my communication and leadership skills. Spanish was my first language, which Bloomsburg has helped me perfect. The best part of the program is making connections with my peers and professors. Communication studies introduced to me a world I was aware of but not very familiar with. It gave me new lenses to see the world. I’ll miss BU dearly. I’ve made lifelong friends here.”

    • Caroline Trinidad '22
      Communication Studies, Spanish
  • “Some of the best parts of my experience here were connecting with specific professors and an advisor who care for the future of students, and not just themselves. I learned more life skills and traits, such as learning to ask for help and maximizing my daily time. I have a full journey ahead of me in fulfilling my destiny in becoming a medical doctor.”

    • Leslie Mensah '22
      Pre-med Biology
  • “When I toured my senior year of high school, I fell in love with the campus, the people, and everything it had to offer. Four years later, I’ve felt at home and could never picture myself anywhere else. I’ve grown so much compared to my first day as a freshman. I’m very thankful to have grown into a strong and confident woman. I’ve made some lifelong friends here that I’ll miss dearly. You do truly meet your people in college, and I’m grateful for every single person who’s come into my life at Bloomsburg.”
