The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) is a comprehensive regional university that consistently ranks among the top Midwestern regional universities in U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges.” Providing an alternative to both large research universities and small liberal arts colleges, UMD attracts students looking for a personalized learning experience on a midsize campus.
Academics tailored for you
At UMD, we recognize that you’re more successful when you have the opportunity to learn and explore across the arts. With programs like our Graphic Design major with Studio emphasis, you have the opportunity to explore studio arts and complete an intensive Graphic Design curriculum that prepares you to hit the ground running when you graduate. Art and Design students also make constant use of modern studio spaces to bring their artistic visions to life, including one of the region’s best printmaking studios; an interdisciplinary digital imaging lab; and the Motion + Media Across Disciplines (MMAD) lab for 3D motion capture and video production. An education in the arts is priceless preparation for a changing world. As a student at UMD, you’ll learn to express your thoughts, ideas, and creative solutions in ways that dramatically impact those around you.
Right fit, right location
UMD’s main campus is located on 244 acres, and the majority of campus—consisting of over 50 buildings—is interconnected by a vast series of hallway systems, skyways, and concourses. The campus is based in the safe community environment of Duluth, Minnesota—Outside magazine’s 2014 winner of “Best Outdoor Town in America.” It offers easy access to the Minneapolis–St. Paul region, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, and Chicago. Not to mention, it’s located next to beautiful Lake Superior and the boundless adventure of the North Shore.
“The experience we get in the Graphic Design program at UMD really simulates what working for clients in the real world will be like.” — Ann Servatius, Graphic Design major
