Teacher Education is in our DNA at Central Washington University

If you're ready to inspire the next generation, Central Washington University (CWU) offers a comprehensive and supportive environment for future educators. CWU has a deep, long-standing legacy of teacher preparation—it’s why the College was established over a century ago. Today, the programs are forward-thinking, focused on giving you the real-world skills needed to thrive in diverse K-12 classrooms across Washington and beyond.

Academics for the modern classroom
The College of Education and Professional Studies is dedicated to preparing exceptional educators. Undergraduate students can pursue the Educational Foundations major (BAEd) which is the main pathway for teaching certification in Washington State. This program focuses on pedagogical theories, curriculum development, and teaching methods, ensuring you understand how to prepare, deliver, and assess instruction for K-12 students. For those who want a background in instructional pedagogy but not certification, the Instructional Foundations major (BA) prepares you for roles in training programs, private education, and other instructional settings. The University emphasizes hands-on learning and field experiences in various classroom settings, so you gain practical knowledge before you graduate.

Wildcat life
Your college experience is more than just classes, and at CWU, there’s always something happening. Live in modern residence halls, join one of over 100 clubs and organizations, and cheer on the Wildcats at a home game. The beautiful Pacific Northwest is your backyard, offering endless opportunities for hiking, skiing, and exploring. On campus, the Student Union and Recreation Center is the hub of activity, a perfect place to meet friends, grab a bite, or get in a workout. CWU is committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where every student can find their place and thrive.

A career-ready commitment
CWU’s School of Education is well-known for producing graduates who are immediately prepared for the classroom. With a commitment to evidence-based practices and a focus on practical skills, CWU alumni are highly valued by school districts. You'll have opportunities to focus on high-demand fields like Special Education, which faces a significant shortage of qualified professionals, giving you excellent job prospects right after graduation.
