Mentorship is crucial! And finding formal mentoring relationships is so important. Find experts and those who have accomplished great things in areas you are interested in. (Often, they can be found right in your academic department of your college.) Be willing to ask for their help and use the fact that you are a young and up-and-comer to your advantage. Most people in high places like to help others find the same success that they did. Just as important is leveraging peer mentoring. Ask your peers who have experience in areas of interest to help you. Not only do they know how to do what you are interested in doing, but they also have a similar perspective as you do because they are of the same generation.
