Spiders are remarkable

Since 1830, every Richmond Spider has arrived with a set of guiding qualities within ourselves — the qualities that make us Spiders before even setting foot on campus. An ardent ambition that propels us past where others have stopped. An unmistakable curiosity that pushes us to dig deeper. An unyielding determination to pursue our goals with everything we have. We know that what we do here will have an incredible impact everywhere. The things we bring on day one — our talents, our passions, our viewpoints — are what equip us to make that impact.

Academics: challenge and support
UR’s academic experience is built around a small student-to-faculty ratio (a remarkable 7:1), meaning you'll get plenty of one-on-one attention from professors who are passionate teachers and researchers. Nearly all classes have fewer than 30 students, encouraging deep discussion, and strong connections. Whether you're interested in the School of Arts and Sciences, the Robins School of Business, or the unique Jepson School of Leadership Studies, you'll find a rigorous, flexible curriculum that pushes you to think critically across disciplines. Plus, with over two-thirds of students studying abroad, the world really is your classroom!

Student life: a home away from home
UR is a tight-knit, residential campus, with over 90% of students living on campus all four years—it truly becomes your home! The gorgeous campus, often ranked as one of the most beautiful in the country, provides a perfect setting for both serious study, and fun. From a vibrant Greek life, and over 190 student organizations to its Division I athletics (Go Spiders!), there’s always something happening. You'll also find award-winning dining, and highly-rated student support services to help you thrive. The city of Richmond is just a short, free shuttle ride away, offering an awesome mix of history, arts, and outdoor adventure.

What does it mean to be a Spider?
Richmond students are remarkable. They are scholars, artists, athletes, entrepreneurs, and leaders who thrive in a collaborative and intellectually vibrant environment. The university is committed to small class sizes and close faculty support. This helps every student explore and find their unique path.

Richmond’s holistic approach to education nurtures the same qualities embodied by the Spider—tenacity, adaptability, and a strong sense of community—that prepare our students to make meaningful impacts in the world.

We are UR. We are the Richmond Spiders.
