More Than a Degree, an Education For Life

The College of New Rochelle has a longstanding tradition of educating confident students who go on to become leaders in their chosen fields. We believe that college is about more than just earning a degree—it’s about gaining the knowledge and skills you’ll need to embark on a successful career. A CNR education integrates rigorous academics, a vibrant student community, and the Catholic core values of service, justice, and equality to bring you an excellent college experience.

CNR’s location gives you the best of both worlds. Our scenic, 20-acre suburban campus in Westchester County provides a safe and personal educational environment enhanced by the abundance of intellectual, professional, and cultural resources available both locally and in nearby New York City. Grounded in the liberal arts, our academic programs promote the development of critical-thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills. The global marketplace is shifting and evolving faster than ever, and our curriculum effectively prepares you to be adaptable and invaluable to employers in a dynamic workforce. With a CNR education, you’ll graduate prepared for your first position, with the ability to grow and advance your career to the highest levels.

Our Catholic heritage is grounded in the Ursuline tradition of continuing our mission of providing service and compassion to those in need. The College was named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for six consecutive years, signifying our continued goal of incorporating service into the college experience to ensure we are educating the whole person. You can make a difference with your peers in the community and around the world by helping out at area soup kitchens and senior facilities, making Midnight Runs to feed the homeless in New York City, and volunteering with Habitat for Humanity.

We combine curricular and cocurricular education, so you will apply what you are learning in the classroom to other situations in life. For example, Nursing students have provided health care delivery programs to women and children in Mexico, and at the local level, Environmental Studies students have assisted in watershed monitoring analyses.

Living just 16 miles from New York City, you will have access to limitless opportunities for networking with professionals and gaining relevant work experience. When you join CNR, you connect to an alumni base of over 50,000 from 45 states and 44 countries.

Academic programs
Our School of Arts & Sciences offers a choice of 30+ degree programs, including Biology, Communication Arts, and Social Work, and 15 pre-professional and certificate programs such as Pre-law, Pre-med, Forensic Studies, Informatics, and Sports Marketing. The liberal arts education students receive prepares them exceptionally well for numerous careers. As a student at The College of New Rochelle, you will have access to highly sought-after internships that often lead to employment opportunities upon graduation. Internship sites have included HBO, ABC, Atlantic Records, the Guggenheim Museum, Human Rights Watch, Morgan Stanley, and the United Nations.
A robust liberal arts curriculum is steered by a highly qualified faculty—of whom 90% hold a terminal degree in their field. Classes are also offered by adjunct professors who work actively in their careers while teaching at CNR. We employ teachers and mentors who are routinely recognized for their ongoing dedication to research and interdisciplinary scholarship. Inside the classroom and out, support is available to you in the form of extra office hours, course selection assistance, and professional guidance. An 11:1 student-faculty ratio ensures you receive individualized attention.

Our School of Nursing & Healthcare Professions is renowned for its outstanding curriculum and quality education and seeks to develop programs that prepare students for the growing workforce demands of the health care industry. Our philosophy and holistic approach to nursing is embodied by the “CNR Nurse,” who possesses the expertise, compassion, and professionalism that is highly valued in the health care community.

Students participate in clinical placements at the most prestigious hospitals in New York, including New York Presbyterian, Phelps Memorial, Memorial Sloan Kettering, Montefiore Medical Center, and Blythedale Children’s Hospital. The practical skills and techniques you learn in the classroom are put into practice in the Learning Resource Center, a clinical simulation laboratory. On-campus support for students includes our Student Nurses’ Association, which provides opportunities for study, professional development, and a variety of social activities. Recent Nursing graduates have a 92.4% first-time pass rate on the rigorous NCLEX exam—higher than both the New York State and national averages.

Special programs
The Honors Program encourages students to enjoy learning with faculty and other academically motivated students in small seminars that emphasize engaged learning and independent research.

Living Learning Communities allow students in certain majors or with similar interests to live together, share academic resources, and work closely with faculty. These communities encourage broader and deeper inquiry into academic subjects and facilitate action and service.

Our Study Abroad Program provides students with the opportunity to experience life deeply immersed in a different culture. Students have recently studied or interned in Italy, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Mexico, and Ireland. The Russel and Deborah Taylor Foundation funds up to half the cost for qualified students to study abroad. A commitment to educational access is one of the key ideals upon which CNR was founded, and we strive to create opportunity for all of our students.

CNR offers an NCAA Division III athletics program that competes in basketball, swimming, soccer, cross-country, volleyball, tennis, softball, and baseball. We also offer intramural and recreational activities, and our Wellness Center boasts a competition-sized swimming pool, exercise studio, and gymnasium.

Scholarships and grants
The College’s commitment to affordability is expressed in a variety of ways. CNR recognizes outstanding students by awarding numerous merit scholarships to those who demonstrate exceptional academic accomplishment, leadership, commitment to service, and intellectual promise. More than 96% of our students receive financial aid and/or scholarship money. Students can also apply for grants in the areas of music, art, and journalism.
