Transfer to Lake Forest

Lake Forest College supports the academic growth and personal success of all our students. Whether you are a transfer student from a community college or a four-year institution, you will be welcomed into a friendly and inclusive community of students from nearly every state and over 98 countries.

Lake Forest College is located 30 miles north of Chicago in the historic North Shore community of Lake Forest, Illinois. The beautiful 107-acre campus is within walking distance of the train to Chicago and the shore of Lake Michigan.

You will have access to top professors, career counselors, alumni, internships, and research. Classes are small—the average class size is 19—and faculty do all the teaching and advising—you won’t find teaching assistants here.

Easy transfer process
We have an individual admissions process where we take the time to know you—not just your GPA and test scores. We even offer on-site admissions, both virtually and on campus, so we can review your application and materials together, and you can receive an admission decision right away.

You may transfer up to a maximum of two years of college coursework. If you are a recipient of an applicable Associate of Arts (AA) degree or an Associate of Science (AS) degree from an accredited community college, you may be granted full junior standing. Credit is also given for Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate examinations. See how your credits will transfer here.

Transfer scholarships
The College offers generous financial aid packages for all admitted transfer students, including international students. Students may also qualify for up to $32,000 per year in scholarships. Lake Forest College offers generous scholarships to transfer students who have distinguished themselves through academic achievement:

• Our Forester Flagship Program offers qualified in-state students up to 100% of the College’s tuition covered in grants and scholarships

• Guaranteed $28,000 Phi Theta Kappa scholarship or $30,000 with a GPA of 3.75+

• Honors Program Scholarships of $2,000 are available to community college students who are members of their institution’s honors program

• Fine arts scholarships in art, music, theater up to $5,000

Academics
Nearly half of all students double-major, giving them a competitive edge in pursuing a variety of career fields. Lake Forest College has a long tradition of academic excellence and is known for its innovative curriculum. In addition to majors in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, the College features programs of study in entrepreneurship and innovation, neuroscience, communication, finance, business, and other practical areas.

The College recently introduced a new Health Professions Program, a strategic partnership with Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (RFU). This partnership provides students with an innovative program and competitive preparation for high-demand health occupations. Specifically, Lake Forest College students will have access to a range of pathways into RFU’s undergraduate and graduate-level degree programs, including medicine (M.D.), physician assistant, pharmacy, physical therapy, and nursing.

Career preparation
We prepare our students for, and help them attain, productive and rewarding careers. The Career Advancement Center offers exceptional career counseling as well as a host of networking opportunities with alumni and employers. Every student is assigned a career advisor when they begin at the College. Students are also encouraged to pursue for-credit internships, which are abundant in the Chicago area.

An Inside Look

What students are saying about us...

  • “Lake Forest has experience in supporting transfer students. It was obvious they thought extensively about the transfer population and our unique needs in ways that many schools have not. That speaks to the benefits of a small, close-knit campus community."

    • Heather Atherton '22
  • "The faculty at Lake Forest are very good at connecting with their students and are always available if you need help with anything. The students are also extremely welcoming, and the student body is very diverse, which I like."

    • Sergio Sosa ’21
  • "I chose Lake Forest because I was enticed by Phi Theta Kappa scholarship, and when I visited campus, I loved the feel here. Since the College is close to home, I could commute, which works out great for me."

    • Randi Murawski ’20
  • “I decided to transfer to Lake Forest because of the small class sizes and being close to home. I felt like I was a unique student instead of just a number, and the faculty and science programs were exceptional.”
