“I love being at Marymount. I love that there is a high ratio of women like myself here, excited about a career in the sciences and mathematics,” declares Kristin Gogal, a Biology major with a Secondary Teaching Licensure track. Winning a full-ride scholarship, studying abroad, peer tutoring, bioethics club president, study group leader—Kristin has jumped in with both feet to make the most of her Marymount educational experience.
An independent, coeducational Catholic university, Marymount is a thriving, welcoming, close-knit community with a student-faculty ratio average of 12:1. “The smaller educational environment, being able to get to know my professors as mentors, and to interact more with classmates in group settings—it’s all so beneficial.” Kristin explains. “Being at Marymount has definitely enhanced my career preparation in so many ways not possible at a larger school.”
Location, location, location
Located in a quiet suburban neighborhood in Arlington, Virginia, Marymount is mere minutes from the nation’s capital. Students are just a few Metro stops away from world-class cultural events, entertainment, museums and monuments, the historic Georgetown district, festivals, and the racing pulse of America’s hub of politics and governance. Concerts, lectures, theater productions, dances, and annual events like International Week on campus fill up the academic calendar.
With students from nearly every US state and 66 countries, Marymount is a college community recognized for its ethnic, cultural, and religious diversity—one that cultivates a culture of acceptance and nurtures opportunities to understand differing backgrounds and beliefs while developing a global perspective.
Marymount’s robust financial aid offerings and solid career preparation make it a smart investment for your future. More than 90% of Marymount students receive some type of aid to make an extraordinary private college education attainable.
An example is Kristin’s full scholarship. Marymount is one of only 13 designated institutions nationally in the Clare Boothe Luce Scholarship Program, the single most significant private financial support for women in mathematics and science.“The oldest of six children, I wasn’t sure my career goals in science were even possible until I won this award to attend Marymount. I was thrilled when the door opened wide with opportunities,” Kristin adds.
During orientation the Campus Ministry Association (CMA) introduces freshmen to community service at Volunteer Service Day. CMA also sponsors special events like the Special Olympics Basketball Tournament and Alternative Spring Break service trips.
Marymount health profession students partner with the community to provide health care services to the disadvantaged in the area. Volunteering is a focus across the curriculum, campus clubs, and athletic teams through service-learning projects in the Arlington community and abroad.

All Marymount undergraduates complete an internship or research experience related to their major—with the advantage of one-of-a-kind networking opportunities available only in a global city like DC. Popular internship sites have included Congressional offices and the White House, the National Science Foundation, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington Redskins, the FBI, National Geographic Society, and the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts.
Marymount places a premium on critical thinking, creativity, and undergraduate student research through the DISCOVER Program. Marymount students have been there, done that. “My DISCOVER program grant built my confidence in my research skills as I studied sea turtle embryology. I also studied in Belize, where we tagged a hawksbill sea turtle in the study of migratory patterns and are still tracking data in the lab.”
A study abroad experience will put you on the world’s doorstep—teaching hands-on science methods in India or taking art classes in Florence, Italy.
