Performing Arts Profile

No other school exists in the world like Tisch School of the Arts.

When the School of the Arts was founded at NYU in 1965, it was heralded as a daring adventure—to be a school unlike any other. We met that challenge, and what has emerged over the last 50 years is the country’s preeminent center for the study of the performing, cinematic and emerging media arts.

Our breadth of excellence across the departments is unique and world-renowned. You can earn a BA, BFA, MA, MFA, MPS or PhD in a wide range of disciplines that are uniquely integrated within one school. Artists and scholars come from around the world to study acting, dance, cinema studies, collaborative arts, design for stage and film, dramatic writing, film and television, game design, interactive media arts, interactive telecommunications, moving image archiving and preservation, musical theatre writing, performance studies, photography, public policy, and recorded music.

The students
We seek out and celebrate unique voices hailing from 46 states and 58 countries. Our students undergo the most rigorous admissions process of any school at NYU, and we  take great care in deciding whom we invite into the school. Our faculty pore over academic histories, essays, portfolios, writing samples, images, and performances to identify the most intriguing artists and scholars who are driven to create and innovate.

Once you’re here, you will encounter a community of people who have a deep curiosity about themselves and the world around them. They will become your friends and collaborators for life. You are going to dig deeply into your discipline, but you will also experience the breadth of a liberal arts education in a leading global research university. This is going to prepare you for anything you want to do in your journey for life.

Admission
Admission to the Tisch School of the Arts is a highly selective process. Applicants are held to rigorous academic and artistic standards, and evaluated through a two-part admissions process, which includes submitting both the Common Application and an artistic review. As Tisch is a community of storytellers, consider both parts as an opportunity to share your story—we want to know who you are, and what you care about; what you've done, and what you intend to achieve.

You can apply to the Tisch School of the Arts by using the Common Application, answering NYU-specific questions and submitting additional required materials. Learn more about the requirements and deadlines through NYU Undergraduate Admissions
