Colleges With Strength in Men's and Women's Equestrian Sports

Best Colleges with Strong Men’s and Women’s Equestrian Programs

Finding a college where you can excel academically while competing at a high level in equestrian sports requires finding the right balance between riding facilities, team structure, and academic fit. Whether you are looking for NCAA varsity competition, Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) teams, or Intercollegiate Dressage Association (IDA) programs, several institutions stand out for their commitment to collegiate riding.

Top equestrian colleges offer specialized training across multiple disciplines, including hunt seat, western, and dressage. Many of these universities feature world-class on-campus equine centers with indoor arenas, turnout pastures, and dedicated boarding options. Depending on your goals, you can choose between division-level varsity teams governed by the National Single-Discipline or Dual-Discipline Equestrian Associations and highly competitive club teams that welcome riders of all experience levels.

Beyond competition, many of these institutions integrate their athletic programs with strong equine science, pre-veterinary, and agribusiness majors. This allows student-athletes to gain hands-on management experience alongside their daily training.

When evaluating equestrian programs, consider factors such as barn proximity, horse ownership requirements, travel schedules, and available scholarships. Browse our comprehensive list to explore top-rated universities supporting both men’s and women’s equestrian athletes.
