Gain Marketable Skills in the School of Education

The School of Education has four undergraduate degree plans that will prepare you to serve students and communities as a professional educator. Education students learn marketable skills such as:
• Classroom management and instructional planning and delivery
• Ethical conduct, practices, and performance
• Detection and education of students with dyslexia
• Handling of mental health, substance abuse, and youth suicide
• Texas Knowledge and Skills and English Language Proficiency Standards
• Content knowledge and expertise, including reading instruction, critical thinking, problem-solving, creative thinking, and verbal and written communication
• Creation of effective learning environments
• Use of technology to maintain data and communicate with students, parents, colleagues, and the community 
• The ability to determine the deeper meaning or significance of what is being expressed
• Social intelligence to connect to others in a deep and direct way
• Novel and adaptive thinking to come up with solutions and responses beyond what is rote or rule-based
• Cross-cultural competency to operate in different cultural settings
• Computational thinking to translate vast amounts of data into concepts and understand data-based reasoning
