Founded in 1847 as the Free Academy, the City College of New York is a public institution and the first of City University of New York schools. Programs are offered through the College of Liberal Arts and Science and the Schools of Architecture, Education, and Engineering, and the Division of the Arts. Its 35-acre campus of Gothic and modern architecture is located in New York's St. Nicholas Heights section.
