NCSU's Department of Nuclear Engineering conducts this precollege program, which enrolls high schoolers planning a college major in nuclear engineering. YISP explores nuclear energy sources, medical applications and environmental disposal issues. Topics covered by lectures, labs and guest speakers include fuel fabrication, radiation, plasma applications, fission power systems and nuclear waste management. Students work on group projects and make presentations at the conclusion of the program.
