The academy provides talented students entering grades 8-10 with an introduction to college life and a rigorous educational experience. Participants select one course from offerings in the humanities, the fine arts, the natural sciences and the social sciences. Course work emphasizes interdisciplinary studies and creative problem solving, and each accelerated class is the equivalent of a semester-long university course. Truman State faculty structure programming to suit the particular interests and abilities of the student. A selection of evening and weekend athletic, intellectual, creative and recreational activities balances academics. Suitable applicants should be nominated by a principal or counselor and should score in the 95th percentile or above on a standardized achievement test.
